Almost 200 participants, including researchers, guests and interested members of the public, came together at media docs in Lübeck from 16th to 17th of April to discuss topics related to the anonymization of personal data.

Der Kongress AnoSiDat – Anonymisierung für eine sichere Datennutzung - brachte erstmalig alle fünf BMBF-geförderten Netzwerke, sowie deren 17 assoziierte Projekte zusammen, die an der Anonymisierung von Gesundheits-, Mobilitäts- und Georeferenzdaten arbeiten. Zusätzlich zu den Expertenvorträgen wurde das Programm durch eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Vertretern aus Politik, Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und einem Sprecher des Chaos Computer Clubs ergänzt.
Zahlreiche AVATAR-Forschende beteiligten sich aktiv am Programm mit einem breiten Spektrum an Inhalten: Nach der Projektvorstellung durch Verbundkoordinatorin Dr. Eike Dazert (medways e.V.) gab Prof. Felix Wilke (Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena) Einblicke in eine repräsentative Studienumfrage, welche die Bereitschaft der Bevölkerung, medizinische Daten für Forschungszwecke zu spenden, untersucht. Demnach, so betonte Wilke, sei das Vertrauen ein wichtiger Schlüsselfaktor für die Datenspende. Im Anschluss thematisierte Prof. Dr. Hans-Hermann Dirksen (Liebenstein Law - Kanzlei für Wirtschaftsrecht), der die AVATAR-Teilprojekte juristisch berät, im projektintern bewährten Format "Juristische Sprechstunde" die rechtlichen Perspektiven und Herausforderungen bei der Spende von Gesundheitsdaten für die Forschung.
Dr. Anne-Kathrin Dietel (InfectoGnostics) fasste zu Beginn des zweiten Tages alle AVATAR-Beiträge in einem Pitch-Vortrag zusammen. Einen Überblick zur technischen Umsetzung des AVATAR-Systems gab anschließend Dr. Florian Rasche (Navimatix GmbH). Posterbeiträge zu den Anreizen für die Datenspende (Dr. Sven Bock, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V.), den vier AVATAR Use-Cases (Dr. Anne-Kathrin Dietel), sowie den im Aufbau befindlichen AVATAR-Laboren für die interne Projektarbeit und Darstellung der Projektergebnisse (Clara Udich und Anna Pavliou, ITnet Thüringen e.V.) ergänzten das Programm.
Beide Kongresstage boten zahlreiche Gelegenheiten, sich zu den technischen Möglichkeiten, aber auch Herausforderungen bei der Anonymisierung personenbezogener Daten auszutauschen. Wir freuen uns über die vielen neuen netzwerkübergreifenden Kontakte und das Wiedersehen mit unseren Partnern aus den vier assoziierten Forschungsprojekten PATH, MEDINYM, NEMO und KI-AIM, welche sich dem Publikum ebenfalls mit Vorträgen und Postern präsentierten.
The AnoSiDat congress - Anonymization for secure data use - brought together all five BMBF-funded networks and their 17 associated projects working on the anonymization of health, mobility and geospatial reference data. In addition to expert presentations, the program was complemented by a panel discussion with representatives from politics, business, science and a speaker from the Chaos Computer Club.
Numerous AVATAR researchers actively participated in the program with a wide range of content: Following the project presentation by network coordinator Dr. Eike Dazert (medways e.V.), Prof. Felix Wilke (Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena) provided insights into a representative study survey investigating the willingness of the population to donate medical data for research purposes. According to this, Wilke emphasized that trust is an important key factor for data donation. Prof. Dr. Hans-Hermann Dirksen (Liebenstein Law), who provides legal advice to the AVATAR subprojects, then discussed the legal perspectives and challenges of donating health data for research.
Dr. Anne-Kathrin Dietel (InfectoGnostics) summarized all AVATAR contributions in a pitch presentation at the beginning of the second day. Dr. Florian Rasche (Navimatix GmbH) then gave an overview of the technical implementation of the AVATAR system. Poster contributions on the incentives for data donation (Dr. Sven Bock, German Aerospace Center), the four AVATAR use cases (Dr. Anne-Kathrin Dietel), as well as the AVATAR labs currently being set up for internal project work and the presentation of project results (Clara Udich and Anna Pavliou, ITnet Thüringen e.V.) brought the programm full circle.
Both congress days offered numerous opportunities to discuss the technical possibilities and challenges of anonymizing personal data. We are pleased about the many new cross-network contacts and the reunion with our partners from the four associated research projects PATH, MEDINYM, NEMO and KI-AIM, which also presented themselves to the audience with lectures and posters.
