Exploring public attitudes towards the use of health data with DIVE

Using the web application DIVE (Data-based Interactive Visualisation for Independent Exploration), you can view the results of a Germany-wide survey on the acceptance of and willingness to share health data. Without the need for any statistical software, you can explore the frequency of responses to questions across various topics and use filters to analyse the survey results specifically for certain demographic groups or characteristics. Give it a try and see what the results reveal: What do you think – how willing are people in your age group to share their health data? Or what are people’s views on electronic health records (eHRs)?

A total of 1,004 people aged 18 and over took part in the telephone survey in December 2023; the sample was representative of the German population in terms of age group, gender and place of residence (federal state).

Respondents were asked about topics such as attitudes towards sharing health data, digital literacy, trust in institutions, motivation, concerns, data security, and their use of the electronic patient record (ePA). The specific questions, as well as the methodology report, can be found on the DIVE website.

DIVE is aimed at the general public as well as those involved in research and teaching. The complete dataset is available for scientific reuse at GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences.

DIVE was developed by the AVATAR project partner, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, with technical support from Navimatix GmbH.
