AVATAR-Transfer

„Anonymisation of personal health data by creating digital avatars for transfer to use cases“

The aim of AVATAR Transfer is to develop concepts, methods and solutions for the secure collection, provision and processing of health data. Using modern anonymisation and data protection procedures, the innovations of the BMFTR-funded project and its predecessor, ‘AVATAR’, are to be transferred into the field of application. With legal, ethical and social science support, the research institutions, clinics and companies cooperating in the project aim to make a long-term contribution to improving patient health.

Project aims:

  • Research and development of new methods and solutions for the secure collection, provision and processing of health data.
  • Further development and Implementation of the AVATAR platform developed in the predecessor project ‘AVATAR’ for efficient secondary data use in research and development.
  • Supporting the development and application of a future-proof
legal framework for secondary data use, taking into account social science perspectives.

Use-Cases:

  • Predicting treatment outcomes in hearing health through secure federated learning
  • Optimising ophthalmological rehabilitation services and user training for devices based on anonymised patient data.
  • Use and statistical evaluation of anonymised health data to fulfil post-market surveillance requirements for approved medical devices
  • Ensuring the anonymity of clinical biosignal data and researching the recognisability of non-anonymised data from consumer devices
  • Anonymisation of human genome data during sequencing
